Review of PERKO Anchor light

8th Sep 2014

I installed this masthead anchor light on my Parker 21ft sports cabin. The light is a replacement for a PERKO fold down model that had a broken base. PERKO sells a replacement base but I decided to install a new unit. The stowaway feature of this unit was the major reason for my purchase decision. I intend to keep the light pole in my cabin out of harm’s way and out of the weather. My previous masthead light kept getting hit with tree branches when towing the boat. If you purchase this light keep in mind it does not come with mounting screws/bolts. Because of its height I mounted mine using #8 thru bolts and nuts to give it extra strength. According to the instructions you will have to cut a 1 ¼ inch wide hole in your boat to mount this light. The hole is to accommodate the center portion of the base that protrudes down about 1/4 inch. Cutting such a large hole in the roof of my cabin was not an option for me. Instead I made a mounting base out of 5/8 ABS plastic which enabled me to mount the light without drilling any new holes. I would give this unit five stars if PERKO had provide a mounting gasket for the base.
